Nursery Feather Mobile

Hello!

It's been a very, very long time. Last September to be exact and I've missed writing. I do have LOTS to catch up on but I'm going to start with the fact that my baby girl, Jennifer is having a baby girl!! She's due on May 5th!!

To say we're excited over here is an understatement! I gave her a baby shower recently and I'll post about that soon, but today I'm posting about a nursery crib mobile I made for them.

It started one day when Jenn sent me a pic from Pinterest saying she wanted to purchase one. I looked at the price and thought, ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!? So, I thought "how hard can this be?". I told her not to buy it that I will make one. Problem was, as much as I searched and searched online for some kind of directions to make one, they were either non existent or so very vague that they were no help at all! So, I figured it out on my own and in hopes to help ANYONE out there wanting to make one, I'm posting here my step by step process. Of course you don't have to make yours exactly like mine, but I'm going to give you the basics anyway so you aren't totally in the dark like I was. Please excuse my close up pics of my nails and wrinkly hands 😬

What you'll need:

  • A base (embroidery hoop etc.)
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Hot glue gun (or glue)
  • Crimp beads
  • Crimper or Needle-nose pliers
  • Filament or fishing line
  • Beads
  • Feathers

We went to Hobby Lobby for a base. The round part that all the feathers will dangle from. It can be an embroidery hoop or you can design one yourself with string/yarn and something round. We found a metal medallion that was the perfect color to match the nursery.

I didn't care for the burlap flower so I changed it. This is approximately 12" in diameter.

We picked out some feathers and beads.

Also bought some beading filament

And some crimp beads. I bought a crimper but you can use some needle-nose pliers.
Find a needle that you can thread the filament into. I also hanged the base on a light in the breakfast room so I can work on it and see just how long it will be etc.

Cut a piece of the line about 1.5 to 2 feet. Thread one end with the needle (this will be the bottom) and place a bead on it. I'm using small beads with a larger crystal bead in the middle. Thread the bead(s) on it and then take the end of the line up through the second bead. Like so..

Next you'll add a little glue (I used a hot-glue gun) to the very bottom of the bead.

Next I'll add a feather. If it's a large feather you can thread your needle through the quill. First you'll want to maybe cut some of it off...

For some of the smaller feathers, you can have two together and hot glue them instead of using the needle. Sometimes they're just too small..

Like this one. There is a set of beads underneath as well as on top.
After putting the feather over the beads, string another set of beads over the feather.
Now you'll decide if you want 2 or 3 more feathers spaced out over about 12". Some I did with one, two or three. Jenn did not want them all even on each line but feel free to that if you like. You can have just one feather if you like. It's your mobile so it will look awesome how ever you decide.

Next, you're going to cut it about 5 inches from the actual length you want. Then you'll place a crimping bead on the line. Bring the line around the base where you'd like to place it and thread the end through the crimp bead, then push it up as close to the base as you can and then crimp it.

Sorry this is blurry

Then cut the remainder of the line close to the crimp bead.

And...viola!! Originally we were just going to use the crystal beads but I found some rose gold tiny beads and thought they would just make the crystal ones stand out a bit more.
I'm really happy with how it turned out and I hope I helped someone with their plans to make one.

Please let me know if you have any questions and as always...

August This N That..

Hey!!

Just stopping by to post some randomness from August. I went to Kelley's Island for our yearly Bunco game at Molly's, but I'm waiting for permissions to post pictures of my friends before I post about it.

First up, Paul and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary by going to see Keith Urban in concert at Blossom Music Center! OMG!! It was amazing!!

At the beginning of the concert he asked how everyone was doing in different sections of the music center. The right, left, center and out in the grass. He said he'd be visiting the peeps in the grass later...and he did! Right behind us and he landed up giving away his guitar to a very excited young lady!

Paul, Steve and Ashley put a primer on the pergola. We painted it white and I think it turned out quite good.

The little Animal Crackers we all grew up with and love, got a new look. The animals are no longer in cages. This is some important shit going on! Animal rights activists have got to be thrilled...

In my opinion, they weren't actually in cages. They were in train cars and the boxes we got as kids had little wheels that folded down. Oh well, they look happy 😉.

I'll end this post with some pics of Toby and Bentley...

Take me with you!

Bentley got a much needed bath.
Bentley and his bestie, Sawyer.
I try to walk him to the park every day. It's a mile there and back.

Now this little guy Bentley always flips his little beds. He likes to sleep in them upside down but I've never seen him do it with a rug.
Upside down bed in my craft room.
Toby loves "our" time after Bentley goes to bed with Paul.

As always...

The Grand-Kids Summer 2018

I've been meaning to post about the summer fun we had when Emmy and Logan visited but I've been so busy with real important things! Like Bunco on Kelley's Island, Keith Urban concert for our anniversary, going back to work part time, trying to put up curtains on the sliding glass door and setting up an aquarium! You know, real important stuff!

We did have a blast though and this is what this post is all about.

We picked up Emmy a week earlier than Logan as he was camping with the boy scouts. Speaking of camping, we had to cancel our camping trip with the grands because the weather for the weekend we had reservations for, was rain the whole time! We were bummed about it too because they haven't camped in our RV yet. Oh well. Next year!

I play Bunco once a month with 15 other young ladies and I knew we needed a sub for July, so I planned on Emmy subbing. Even though she didn't win, she was a really good sport and said she had a good time!

We took the kids to Swings N Things and unfortunately it was a gloomy day that turned into a rainy day. At least they got their Go Kart riding in first...

They must have gone on the these Go Karts 5 or 6 times! They loved it!

We went on the bumper boats before it rained too. They ganged up on me and I got soaked but I wouldn't have missed that fun for anything!

They decided to play the second course at Putt Putt and it really started raining hard. They wanted to finish though and had a blast playing in the rain.
Ahhh to be young again!

Jenn and Dan came for a day and Jenn & I took Emmy to her first "Paint With A Twist". I think Emmy loved it!

Is my grand-daughter not the cutest?!

Ah! Emmy's almost as tall as I am!! She's 10! 😲

We then had the afternoon to spend at Play CLE. Not sure who had more fun, Logan & Emmy or Jenn & Dan LOL! This place has EVERYTHING! Including a little zip line course.

I was soooo impressed when Jenn did this. Working out and lifting pays off!

We had a beautiful, sunny warm day when we went to Jenn & Dans. Everyone had fun in their pool.

Synchronized back-flips anyone?...

It was Dan's birthday...
Happy Birthday Dan!!

We took the kids to the new totally redone Cedar Shores Water Park...THEY LOVED IT!!

At first I thought she had her hands in the air like YAY! I did it!! Nope, those are her feet! 😂

It's been a very long time since I went Geocaching with them so we headed out to find some cashes. It was such a hot day that I landed up carrying Bentley the whole way back, but we did find a couple before the heat got to us...
Found the 3 with the smiley faces!

He's growing up too fast!! 💓
I can't show you the 3rd cache as it would give it away LOL.

One more s'more making fun in the backyard before they have to head back. The first 2 pics were taken at 6:22 and the 3rd at 6:23. Perfect timing! Emmy is concentrating she said (not pouting) and Logan and Bentley looking at dark clouds looming. (I think Bentley is looking at Logan's food though) 😂

It wouldn't be going to Ohio to Mimi & Grandpa's without Menchies....

We played games, went to the Avon City Pool, the movies and to visit Steve and Ashley. I think they had a fun time with us. Emmy's birthday was coming up in just a couple of days so we had a nice little birthday party for her.

I can't believe how grown up they are!! 😥

We then had to say goodbye 😭...

Emmy missed her daddy!

Emmy doing the "Royal" wave goodbye, complete with her crown!! God I love this kid!!

It's just September and I miss them already!! Hopefully it won't be long before we see them again.
